Dear Friends.
Today is the 15th day, the full moon, of the Hebrew month of Shevat, which means that it is Tu Bishvat—the New Year of Trees.

At our Livestream Shabbat Evening Service (7:30 PM) we will feature festive music from this minor but popular holiday, and an appropriately environmental message for this Jewish Arbor Day.

At our Zoom Shabbat Morning Torah Study (10:00 AM) comments by Rashi prompt the question: do men and women have different leadership styles?

The subject of "FDR and the Jews" remains controversial to this day, and is the subject of my next JPS webinar on Monday (7:30 PM), based on our new, and provocative, book The Jews Should Keep Quiet.

We celebrate the inauguration of our new president and our quest for a more perfect union at our Zoom Shabbat Evening Service (7:30 PM).

Our exploration of the Book of Exodus continues at our Zoom Shabbat Morning Torah Study (10:00 AM).

Speaking of books, the relatively untold story of how the Nazis attempted to destroy the Jews not just physically but culturally, with the massive theft of Jewish books, and the restoration of that heritage by the Allies after the war, is the subject of my third JPS seminar on Monday (7:30 PM).

Dear Friends,
The observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is even more significant this year in light of the tragic events of the last weeks.
At our Livestream Shabbat Evening Service (7:30 PM) we will celebrate King's lessons and legacy in words and music.

At our Zoom Shabbat Morning Torah Study (10:00 AM) we are reading the story of the Exodus that inspired King.
His legacy will also be discussed at our Sunday morning school service and Confirmation Class.

My second JPS New Author Webinar that takes place Monday evening (7:30 PM) is an absolute eye-opener, "HateMail: Anti-Semitism in Picture Postcards".

Dear Friends,
We bid goodbye to a surprisingly festive Hanukkah, despite all the challenges, with our final outdoor lighting tonight (7:00 PM). Thanks to all who participated in our lightings, service and party! And please send in your Mitzvah Mall contributions by mail, on-line donation or an envelope in our school mail box.

At our Zoom Shabbat Evening Service (7:30 PM) we'll speak about a topic that has long fascinated students of history: "The Twelve Tribes of Israel- Myth and Reality".

At our Zoom Shabbat Morning Torah Study (10:00 AM), deep into the Joseph story, we'll consider the provocative question of whether Joseph truly forgave his brothers.

Book Club reminder: Read The Watchmaker’s Daughter by Sonia Taitz for our next meeting on Jan. 11. Available at local libraries, Amazon, and Kindle. A stirring memoir by the daughter of Holocaust survivors set in Washington Heights.

1. In-person lighting of our outdoor menorah (7:00PM) every night, rain, shine or snow!

2. Zoom Family Shabbat-Hanukkah Service (7:30 PM), led by the 6th grade.

3. Zoom Hanukkah Party (7:30 PM) this Saturday, with music, quiz, and dreidel show.

There's a lot to light up even in this dark time.

What is in a name?
Quite a lot according to the Torah.
We'll discuss the three names of the Jewish people at our Zoom Shabbat Evening Service (7:30 PM).

We celebrate the bat mitzvah of Ellis Marcus at our Livestream Shabbat Morning Service (10:00 AM).
Mazal tov to Ellis and her family!

Hanukkah is fast approaching- be on the look-out for a special flyer with all our festivities, including our nightly outdoor menorah lighting.
Visit our annual Mitzvah Mall this Sunday at 9:00 via Zoom to support important charities and print your own donation cards, which make a lovely gift.
