Dear Friends,
The issue of capital punishment has come to the fore again with the botched execution of an inmate in Tennessee last week.
As we begin the annual reading of the Torah cycle, we will note how the first two portions of Genesis relate to the issue, at our Shabbat Evening Service (7:30 PM).
We also take cognizance of the third anniversary of the Oct. 7 tragedy.

Prior to this, our first Tot- Shabbat Service of the new year takes place in the sanctuary (5:30 PM); the lively event is led by Cantor Suzy and Kerri Klein.

A more in-depth look at the death penalty will take place at our Shabbat Morning Torah Study (10:00 AM), which is devoting the entire years to Jewish ethics.

Speaking of ethics, there is moral dilemma at the heart of the movie "Eleanor the Great", which we will discuss at our Adas Emuno Film Club on Monday (7:30 PM) via Zoom.

Mark your calendar for next Sunday the 18th (12:00 in-person only, with bagels and lox): at the Adas Emuno Travel Club, our own Scott Paranada-Fried will talk about his new book: How Do you Say Kosher in Japanese? based on his two-year stay as a teacher in rural Japan!

Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Schwartz
